Today I’m sharing some ideas, tips and tricks to host a big tournament party with Coca-Cola and Jewel-Wings. You all know me and hubby are avid sports fans. Whether its football, hockey or basketball..we love it all. As a child I have always loved basketball but didn’t actually get the chance to be a part of the school basketball team. I was short and didn’t quite have the desired height to play the game but I have always been an ardent fan and love watching it with my friends and family.
Since the weather in Chicago is not very favorable for an outdoor party we’ll be watching the Big Tournament at home this year. We have been waiting for the game since long and are super excited with just few days left for the tournament to commence. I usually prepare a guest list and send out invitations few days before the game followed with the preparation: this includes ordering some snacks, diet coke, chicken wings and setting the stage for a sweet celebration. I decorate my living room with a new theme every year and I’ll be sharing a few ideas today. I try to keep things simple so the décor ideas can be implemented easily without spending much on supplies.
1. Choosing the right color palette
It is important to choose the right theme colors to show your support for your favorite team. I used a colorful theme with orange, black and green as my primary colors. I used the same color palette for decoration using balloons and other party supplies like colored glasses, colored cushions in the living room etc.
2. Decorate the Wall
Plain walls could look dull so it is always a great idea to decorate the wall with posters of your favorite players, paint, ribbons or a backdrop. I decorated my wall using vibrant plates to add a some color to the party. Another idea would be fixing a mini basketball hoop on the wall which looks quite innovative and appealing to guests.
3. Stock up on food
If you’re throwing a party the first thing you need to think about are the drinks. Chicken wings and Coca-Cola are a staple of sports themed parties and I usually get these in advance from my local Jewel-Osco, they have the best party beverages and appetizers.
I made a quick salad to go with the chicken wings and added some falafels that I had made for dinner the previous night (you can make falafels if you have time). Top chicken wings with some seasoning just before serving to make it more interesting and flavorful.
I wanted to keep the menu simple yet have a variety of items so I added some popcorn, cookies and cupcakes to my menu which do not need any preparation, at the same time keep guests happy. 🙂
4. Decorate the viewing area
It is important that your guests feel comfortable so make sure you declutter your living room space. Your sofa should be clean and spacious. Make sure you have enough cushions and throw blankets. I decorated my center table with colored glasses and made some space for snacks and drinks so my guests feel relaxed and can enjoy food while watching the match.
And that’s about it! Hosting a party at home is all about setting the stage, keeping it simple and enjoying your match. All in all I am happy with my sweet party setup: Coca-Cola and Jewel Chicken Wings bring the best out of any party. I will be sharing more themed party ideas soon. Let me know how you liked this post. Do share your favorite big tournament party ideas with me in the comments below.

March 8, 2019 at 3:02 amI love the plates sticking to the wall, that’d also look good in a craft room — my kind of entertainment soiree.
