One question I get asked often is “What kind of shampoo and conditioner do you use”? I am very picky when it comes to hair care and skin care products. I have color treated hair and got my hair highlighted about 3 months back. So, when making a choice of a good shampoo and conditioner I was looking for something that cleaned my hair without weighing it down and kept my hair hydrated. I don’t think that’s too much to ask in a shampoo and conditioner!
One thing I always look out for in my shampoo is that it is sulphate and paraben free. My hair tends to get dry (I have a dry scalp) and a sulphate-free shampoo helps maintain natural oils on the scalp and hair. It is also less likely to wash away my hair highlights. This way I don’t have to worry about harsh chemicals stripping away my hair color. A paraben-free shampoo on the other hand reduces chances of inflammation and irritation on the scalp.
I recently stumbled upon Hair Food’s Tea Tree & Lavender Water Shampoo and Conditioner at Sam’s Club. (The big bottle is available at Sam’s Club for a limited time!) The bottle said sulphate, paraben, dye and mineral oil free and this is something that instantly caught my eye. I had to try it out!! I bought the shampoo and conditioner and waited for about a week without applying anything on my hair. I somewhat had an itchy scalp and dry hair before using this combo. I instantly felt the difference after the first use. The shampoo made my hair feel clean and thoroughly washed. My hair felt soft and healthy. I would say this product is a great choice for dry, brittle, frizzy and color treated hair.
I usually use 3-4 pumps of shampoo and 2 pumps of the conditioner. The bottles available at Sam’s Club contain almost 18 oz of product, this should last me for nearly two months taking into account I wash my hair at least twice a week. I anticipate the conditioner would last a little longer. This was my first time using Hair Food and I’m quite impressed with the products. The shampoo and conditioner are lightweight, do not leave any build up and are a healthy option for color treated hair. I love the way this combo leaves my hair feeling healthy and beautiful. I will recommend these to those of you who have colored/highlighted hair and are looking for a sulphate and paraben free option.
