This post is in collaboration with Rainstorm Wines which is an Oregon Wine Company and today’s post is all about how I and hubby spent our last weekend tasting wine.
We were at the Holiday Inn Club Fox River Resort for a weekend getaway and it was a fun experience trying out the varieties from Rainstorm Wines in the cold winters of Chicago. These wines are sourced from the Willamette and Umpqua Valleys in Oregon and I was asked to select 2 varieties by this company. After checking out all the varieties I went for the Pinot Gris and the Pinot Rose.
The Pinot Gris has aromas of crisp pear and honey blossom and flavors of mango with fresh acidity. It is 100% sourced from the Willamette Valley . This variety is aged for a minimum of six months on fermentation lees with no oak or malolactic fermentation. This wine had a rich and a slight spicier flavor.
The Pinot Rose is the newest addition to the Rainstorm Wines family. It has aromas of strawberry, rose petals and pomegranate seeds and is a completely dry wine. 65% of the grapes for Pinot Rose are direct press and 35% come from the saignée Pinot Noir tank. This wine delivers bright acidity with soft and subtle fruity aromas. I prefer white wine over red and I liked the Pinot Rose out of the 2 wines that I tasted. Hubby liked the Pinot Gris more and he thinks I am biased towards Pinot Rose because of the cute color …Ha Ha! On a more serious note if I actually think about it, I feel the rose color does look pretty. It definitely looks adorable and the bottle looks kind of cute. I feel this bottle would make a perfect gift for your loved ones along with some chocolates or a cute bouquet.
Rainstorm Wines also have the Pinot Noir variety which we haven’t tried yet and would love to try in the future. I would highly recommend you all to check out the varieties on their website and blog to get more insight about this brand.
That would be all for today. Until then keep sipping!

I have never had the Pinot Gris, I am going to give it a try this weekend as my sister-in-law will be visiting me. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like you had a great weekend getaway! I’m not much of a wine drinker, but my husband enjoys a glass now and then. I’ll have to see if we have this variety near us.

I need a wine tour and a class. I know very little about wine but enjoy sipping on it. The pinot Gris sounds good and I would sample that first.
